John is a great guy and has an impressive truck - it has a built motor, built trans, compound turbos and sprays water methanol. We ran the same times in Winston's Crew Cab with a little Aurora 5000 turbo on fuel only but.......
The Cummins is a good motor and the stock bottom end can stand up to a beating for sure. From the factory you won't get that much out of one compared to a Duramax - you really need a turbo upgrade to start competing with a well tuned stock Duramax - and then you need head studs shortly after that. One of their biggest downfalls IMO is the lack of custom tuning software like EFI Live has for the Duramax. If the newer Common Rail Dodges had custom tuning available they would probably be able to hang with a Duramax in stock form. Instead when you want more fuel than what your out of the box tuner gives you have to go buy injectors. Getting a Duramax in the mid to low 12s is a trans, lift pump, exhaust and tuning. Getting a Cummins in the mid to low 12s is a trans, lift pump, exhaust, intake, turbo, head studs, bigger injectors, billet flex plate, and usually a stack of a tuner and a module. So IMO the Cummins has it's weaknesses just like every other truck, but it also has enough strengths to make it a worthwhile truck to race with. Now the 7.3L and 6.0L Fords - that's a whole different story. The 7.3L was a great motor for a work truck but just costs too much to make competitive - and the 6.0L, well lets just say Ford and International missed the mark with that one and again it costs alot to make one competitive. Running 12s will make you a hero in the Ford world while not running 12s in a Duramax or Dodge means you are doing something wrong.

New member to rwhp.us but not to the diesel performance/drag racing world.
I want to sincerely thank rwhp.us Members HASTINGSRJ and silverz98 for your kind words! I think alot of both of you guys too.I am here to correct statements and respond to remarks made by rwhp.us member, Diesel Addiction (AKA: Dustin). I want to commend rwhp.us member COOKIE MONSTER for "telling it like it is" reference to Diesel Addiction coming in this thread to talk s***! I want to cover some of Dustins statements in this post: __________________________________________________ _________ Quote by Diesel Addiction: John is a great guy and has an impressive truck - it has a built motor, built trans, compound turbos and sprays water methanol. FACT: My 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve has NEVER run methanol! I have a water injection system system but use ONLY distilled water and an anti-rust/water pump lubricant additive from "Bars Leak." Dustin, if you are going to comment on my truck, get your facts straight! #2.) "From the factory you won't get that much out of one compared to a Duramax." REALLY Dustin??? Well, my 2006 Dodge CTD CR made 581 H.P./1100 TQ with a STOCK bottom end, STOCK fuel system, STOCK injectors and with only a custom Smarty Programmer and a TST PM 3 along with mods to my turbo. That was right on Wayne Murphy's "Dynojet 248" which is darn accurate and Wayne and his guys know how to run a diesel truck on a chassis dyno! I have the dyno sheet if you want to see it. Now, as I recall, that is as good as your Duramax made before you BLEW YOUR ENGINE! So what are we are we talking about here?? You also have NO IDEA what is going on "behind the scenes" with custom tuning coming for the Dodges, but all I can say is get ready! #3.) Your comments on the Ford PSD Trucks.......... IMO, your comments are way off base on the Fords too Dustin! My good friend and rwhp.us member David Anderson who goes by User Name iracemx6 here has a darn good running 2003 Ford PSD 6.0 with a custom tune, some injectors and a stock tranny and has run mid 12's with me at CPD! And his truck is over 7,000 lbs and he runs it just like it came from the factory, NOT stripped of it's seats, carpet, headlights, bumpers, spare tires etc!! I guess you have also forgotten about one of our fellow racers in N.C.,......a guy you have personally met at CPD, namely, Brian Jelich. His 7.3 Ford PSD is now running in the high sixes in the 1/8th mile and traps in the high 10's in the 1/4 mile and has been doing that for awhile now! Also Aaron Rudolf (Rudy) has a 2008 Ford 6.4 single cab, 4X4, Auto that is also in the high 6's in the 1/8th mile. He ran a 6.9 at our NADM Drag Race @ Rockingham about two months ago. How do I know that? Because he took me out in the first round! Also,... at the recent NHRDA Race in Texas went 10.84@128 MPH in the 1/4 mile. IMO,....pretty impressive times for that truck. I guess you wouldn't know this because you hardly ever attend any of these events! Right? You would rather come in here and brag about how great you and your Duramaxes are and cut down all other diesel makes and models. But I will be sure to let Brian and Rudy know what you said about the Fords! I am sure they will appreciate that after how hard they have worked on their trucks! I wanna see you put your Duramax up against either one of those "lowly Fords" and see just how well you handle EITHER of them!! #4.) FACT: Right now, the old DHRA and newer NADM and NHRDA Drag Race Diesel Records in the 1/8th and 1/4 mile are held by Dodge Cummins 5.9 12 valve trucks in both 2WD and 4WD. These Cummins 5.9 engines all have the P-7100 derived mechanical fuel pumps on them. YES, they are modified but right now they are the record holders! I suggest you bring your truck to some of these real events and see how far you can get against some of these trucks you think don't "make the grade." Talk is cheap Dustin and FWIW I have more respect for someone that can "walk the walk" than "talk the talk!" -------------- Respectfully, John Last edited by John_P : 06-25-2010 at 05:10 PM. |
